       Lawrence Coulson has been surrounded by art for as long as he can remember, his father being an accomplished landscape and aviation artist. Lawrence, like his father, finds the most satisfaction in creating English landscapes. He attempts to capture the tension that fills the air just before a thunderstorm, or the atmosphere of being the first one on the beach on a cold Autumn morning. The light within the painting, or the mood has become the theme of Coulson’s work. In many of his paintings, more of the image is taken from the sky, for this provides the light source and sets the desired atmosphere that Coulson would like to achieve.
