Erin Endicott "My work is a narrative-the story of me."
About the Artist Native New Jersey artist Erin Endicott can't remember a time when she wasn't painting, drawing, or otherwise creating. From a family of artists, Erin's talent was recognized at a young age and by the age of five she was enrolled in private drawing and watercolor lessons. In addition to years of private fine art lessons, Erin spent countless hours surrounded by fabrics and all things textile in the sewing rooms of her Mother and Grandmother. These influences are still seen in Erin's mixed media works. Erin graduated from Moore College of Art with a BFA in Textile Design and apprenticed with Waterlily Weavers in Coldstream, Scotland. She is currently represented by Projects Gallery in Philadelphia, PA. and Accent Gallery in Ocean City, NJ.
Woven Fibers "My process itself is metaphorical. The spontaneous properties of watercolor appeal to my "free thinking" artistic side. Then I cut my paintings into orderly strips and weave them back together (on a loom) with hand painted ribbon. The organic forms of the watercolor painting are enmeshed with the controlled geometric pattern of the woven surface. This is my life, trying to "fit" my artistic self into the disciplined role of wife and mother. The challenge is to integrate these elements, both life and art, into a cohesive whole. The addition of layers of embellishment (text, stitching, beads, ephemera) is the complexities of life piled on. I strive to create that which equals more than the sum of its parts." |
